The English language is the main form of international communication, especially in the travel industry. In the Netherlands, English is a required subject throughout all years of primary and secondary education. Approximately 90% of the Dutch population is fluent in the English language.

Although English is the most commonly spoken language on an international scale, it is always good practice to learn a few basic words of the native language wherever you go, such as: “Yes,” “No,” “Please,” & “Thank You.” In Dutch, these words are translated as:
• “Yes” = “Ja”
• “No” = “Nee”
• “Please” = “Alsjeblieft”
• “Thank You” = “Dank je”
