Club Profile – Club Kampong

Founded in 1902, Club Kampong is the second oldest field hockey club in the Netherlands with over 3,300 members. Club Kampong is located in Utrecht, the country’s fourth-largest city, and hosts a variety of sports, including field hockey, football, cricket, squash, tennis and jeu de boules. The club’s men’s and women’s field hockey teams compete in the Hoofdklasse, the Netherlands top tier hockey league.

Club Kampong has five water-based Astroturf hockey fields, three sand fields, and one semi-water based field that accommodate all levels of play. The club offers four types of hockey – field hockey, indoor hockey, groom hockey, and business hockey. The club has 30+ women’s / girls’ teams at a variety of age and skill levels ranging from “Youth” (ages 4+) to “Veteran” (ages 30+) and “A” to “D” skill levels. 

Field Hockey in the Netherlands

Field hockey is one of the most popular sports in the Netherlands with approx. 250,000 registered members in the Koninklijke Nederlandse Hockey Bond (Royal Dutch Hockey Association). The KNHB has 322 Dutch hockey clubs that are broken down into six regional districts.

The KNHB owns Wagner Stadium in Amsterdam where many international hockey matches take place. The Dutch National Women’s Hockey Team is currently ranked #1 in the world by the International Hockey Federation and holds the record for the most World Cup titles (8). The team has also earned 8 gold medals at the Olympics. Similarly, the Dutch National Men’s Hockey Team has won 3 World Cup titles and earned consecutive Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2000.

Eva de Goede – Top Dutch Field Hockey Player

After winning the FIH Player of the Year Award for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, Eva de Goede is widely recognized as the best female field hockey player in the Netherlands.

As a member of the Women’s National Team since 2006, Eva de Goede has many Olympic accomplishments including earning gold medals in both the 2008 & 2012 Summer Olympics. She also won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Eva de Goede plays for the Amsterdam HB&C field hockey club located in Amstelveen, the suburbs of Amsterdam.
