Club Profile – Den Bosch

Located in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, a southern province of the Netherlands, Den Bosch is currently ranked as the #1 Dutch Women’s Field Hockey club. Both the club’s men and women’s teams compete in the top tier Dutch field hockey league, the Hoofdklasse, where the women’s team has won a record number of 19 titles in the last 21 years.

Den Bosch’s home venue is the Oosterplas hockey complex which consists of 8 playing fields, 2 of which are used for international matches with the participation of visiting national teams. The club has 20+ women’s / girls’ teams at a variety of age and skill levels ranging from 4 years old to 65+ and “A” to “F” skill levels. The top tier women’s team sends nearly 10 players to the Dutch National Team each year.

Field Hockey in the Netherlands

Field hockey is one of the most popular sports in the Netherlands with approx. 250,000 registered members in the Koninklijke Nederlandse Hockey Bond (Royal Dutch Hockey Association). The KNHB has 322 Dutch hockey clubs that are broken down into six regional districts.

The KNHB owns Wagner Stadium in Amsterdam where many international hockey matches take place. The Dutch National Women’s Hockey Team is currently ranked #1 in the world by the International Hockey Federation and holds the record for the most World Cup titles (8). The team has also earned 8 gold medals at the Olympics. Similarly, the Dutch National Men’s Hockey Team has won 3 World Cup titles and earned consecutive Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2000.

Eva de Goede – Top Dutch Field Hockey Player

After winning the FIH Player of the Year Award for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, Eva de Goede is widely recognized as the best female field hockey player in the Netherlands.

As a member of the Women’s National Team since 2006, Eva de Goede has many Olympic accomplishments including earning gold medals in both the 2008 & 2012 Summer Olympics. She also won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Eva de Goede plays for the Amsterdam HB&C field hockey club located in Amstelveen, the suburbs of Amsterdam.
